Article about Transgender and LPGA

So I found this really cool article about how the LPGA tour is removing wording that restricted Transgender people from participating! A great step forward I believe.  Read and comment if you'd like!

  1. this is very interesting to me. as an athlete, i am very competitive and if i am going to lose to someone, it better be fair. putting a girl against a guy in a physical contest is not fair. men are built very different from women and have a huge advantage when it comes to any type of physical contest, so therefore any sport that involves power, strength, agility, etc. is not fair to have females vs males in. the fact that this woman won the long-drive competition does not surprise me. despite any estrogen pills, reconstructive surgery or overall depletion of testosterone, this woman still has the muscle capacity of a man. i am torn because i am all about equality everywhere, but this doesn't seem fair to me, for the sake of the competition. i would want to find a way where it could be fair for the sport, and where transgenders could feel comfortable and show their talents. maybe a transgender league?

  2. i agree with beth. the fact that this woman used to be a man completely makes the competition unfair. a surgical procedure doesn't change the fact that this woman is still naturally stronger, faster, and more powerful than most other women because she used to be a man. The surgery only changes physical things not how men and women are naturally built different. Although golf is more of a skill oriented sport, it still deals with a huge amount of power, especially in the long drive competition, so the fact that she won definitely isn't a surprise considering she is naturally going to be more powerful than the other women since she used to be a man. i am all about equality as well but i think in situations like this where a man changes into a woman, she shouldn't be allowed to compete with other women because it is unfair. i think what beth said about a transgender league could be a possibility but i dont know how well it would work.
