Michael Kimmel was one of the earlier essays we read in class having to do with men and their masculinity. I liked that essay a lot, it made sense to me. This blog is about a put down being, "thats so gay". This has now evolved into "no homo". Men can now compliment other men and use "no homo" afterward, to save themselves from being "gay". This is a topic that really caught me when first reading the essay in class. Men who need to prove their masculinity so much, that they can't even compliment another man without using the comment "no homo" to avoid being "gay". This is very shocking to me that a strong, masculine man would need this much approval.
