this article is meant to be sarcastic i suppose. the headline is "female softball player comes out as straight." at the bottom of the article, it says a bit about how an openly gay man was signed to the nba. with that said, i think this article is a play on how sports are perceived as having a straight majority other than softball. the media was covering the openly gay basketball player as a huge story. since softball players are stereotyped as being lesbians, is coming out as straight such a taboo? we live in a world where if someone comes out as gay they require support. support because there are others opposed and need to defend their lifestyle. while i'm not sure if this article is real or not, it shows the roles reversed and having to "defend" being straight against gay.
